IMPLANTS
What are dental implants?
A dental implant is an understructure designed to replace the root of a missing tooth. This minimally invasive foundation, machined from a high-grade titanium, is critical for patients who will be receiving a replacement tooth. When placed, the implant also works as a stimulant for the bone which can help in preserving the health of surrounding teeth by preventing bone loss.
Receiving a replacement tooth is a three-step process that begins with an implant and leads to a beautiful, natural smile.
First, the dentist places the implant. Then, a custom temporary tooth is added. This tooth will look and feel like a real tooth and will allow the bone to heal around the implant. When the bone has properly healed, your dentist will place the final replacement tooth atop the implant. The replacement tooth itself is custom milled from zirconia or titanium and is fit with a crown that combines maximum strength and tooth-like aesthetics.
Why Dental Implants?
When it comes to implants, there is no better option for patients wanting to:
- Preserve Natural Teeth
- Promote Better Hygiene
- Protect Long-Term Health
- Achieve Natural Appearance
The difference between dental implants and more traditional tooth replacement treatment is that traditional treatment requires that healthy material be removed from either side of the affected area in the mouth. This clears the way for a bridge that will span the length of the gap. The bridge, when placed, does not appear quite as natural as an implant and individual tooth and can be harder to clean. However, it may be a good alternative for you.
